Barktoberfest - The Recap

I woke up early today to the sound of rain but was determined to walk rain or shine! We got some delicious Wegman's coffee, I had Amaretto and Chris had Hazelnut. Honeynut Cheerios for breakfast and then waited for Jason & Kate. Once they arrived "Kribbit's Kritters" were on their way to Lollypop Farm. The place was packed but parking and registration were fairly easy. Thanks to all our friends and family that donated, our team raised $450 for the cause! We had a great time walking through the park, the woods and parts of Lollypop Farm where we also got to observe many of the Farm Animals there. The rain held out and the overcast conditions made it perfect for a fall walk!

Barktoberfest is almost here

Barktoberfest is almost here! To celebrate, I have created a puzzle with the names of all our pets (at least the ones that we could remember), growing up as well as today. Click on the puzzle for a larger version. If you haven't already, sponsor our team! Click one of these two links and then click Sponsor Me. Even just 5 bucks would be cool.

A Poem for Dress Shirt Guy

Hello, Dress Shirt Guy.
I see you on my way to work,
running in your dress shirt,
just past the corn field by the road.

Why must you be so proper?
Did they make fun of you as a child?
Do you have a ghastly scar?
Are there not T-shirts your size?

Where could you be going?
Are you on your way to work,
an important meeting,
a job interview?

Why must exercise be so formal?
Don't you have a jogging suit?
a tank top,
a sweatshirt?

Or are you fooling someone?
pretending to dress for work
walking out the door with your brief case,
throwing it in the woods as you begin to jog?

Does your wife know you jog in your dress shirt?
Are you fooling your children,
your grandchildren,
perhaps the family dog?

Are you happy, dress shirt guy?
Running in your Ralph Lauren,
or perhaps Cardin or Old Navy?

Run along, old dress shirt guy
I'll watch you from my car,
and wonder every day
if I should try it, too.

How to peel a mango

Public Service Announcement
How to Peel a Mango

Step 1. Remove the peel

Step 2. Chop off the stem.

Step 3. Stand the mango up on the flat end you created by removing the stem.

Step 4. Slice away the flesh, being careful to not slice into the core. If you feel resistance or hear a crunching sound you're cutting into the core.

Note: parrot may regard mango with suspicion.

Chimney Bluffs

Possible things to do today:

  1. Nerd it up in front of the computer
  2. Sit on couch, watch TV, nap, and eat
  3. Get some exercise and possible take some cool pictures.

I chose #3 and went to Chimney Bluffs State Park, near Sodus Point, NY.

California - Day 5

Today I visited my Alma Mater, UC Santa Cruz! Home of the Banana Slugs! Check out the awesome redwoods up near the bookstore. This was an amazing place to go to school for anyone who has never seen the campus, it is up on a hill in a redwood forest overlooking the ocean!

We got some loot at the Bay Tree Bookstore before heading down towards the beach.

It was a perfect day to be in Santa Cruz, it must have been in the 80's, not too hot but yet nice and warm!

Of course we had to go to the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Who could resist carnival food and rides?

I went on the Merry-Go-Round....

And the Ferris Wheel.....

And the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster (Built in 1924!)

And I played the squirt gun game, and of course won!

California - Day 4

I took BART out to the city and met my sister for lunch. We had Thia Food. Then we just shopped around the Union Square area. I got a cute little purse and a scarf thing. My sister got a new tank top.

Then it was back to the pool again. The whole gang showed up for dinner....

Dad's famous homemade pizzas! Yum!

California - Day 3

Day three started off with the trip to Berkeley for some wonderful Mexican Food. These enchiladas were made with a guajillo chili sauce and sour cream, oh man were they good!

We rode around in my sister's old 70's Scamp and went t-shirt shopping up on Telegraph.

Then we hightailed it back to the swimming pool where we splashed around, layed in the sun....

and tried dad's home brewed beer.

Then I just played online for a bit in the evening and got hooked up with an old HS friend!

Quote from Abraham lincoln

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

Kalifornia - Day 1 & 2

That's how they say it now, you know. The govenator renamed it. Well we have had a fairly jam packed week so far. We flew in via JetBlue, how come we had the only row in the plane with the TVs not working?

Oh well, we amused our selves with cross stitch and Rob's card tricks, oh and of course, naps! The flights were on time in fact I think we even got in a little early. My sis and her man picked us up and we went directly to In and Out Burger. Can't come to CA without stopping there huh? Then is was out to "the crick" to jump in the pool! Dinner was ham, scalloped potatoes (both done on the grill) and salads. My mom makes the best salads!

The next day we were off to San Francisco. We saw great and amazing stuff starting with lunch at Boudin's Cafe with their famous sourdough bread. Then to the Musee Mechanque to play mechanical games, take photo booth pictures and make lots of squished pennies. Then we walked over to Pier 39 and first visited the sea lions, they rock! We then strolled through the tons of tourist trap shops and bought souveniers and jewlery, yay! Afterwards we hit the Aquarium of the Bay and all sported their lovely "Save The Bay" crowns as we wandered the exhibits (pictured above). We walked through the giant tank tubes seeing all sorts of bay and sea animal life. We were able to pet some sharks too. We then headed out to Crissy Fields, a beach near the Golden Gate Bridge, saw Haight & Ashbury and headed out to dinner at the Spaghetti Shack (apparently featured on one of Rachel Ray's shows).

When we got back to "the crick" we went night swimming!

Horsing Around

Today we were blessed to see a riding event by the Pony Club down in Livonia, NY. A friend of mine from work, Bentley, invited us down and in the process we were able to make friends with his own horses.
